Two-Year-Old Fun

I’m continually amazed at how much two-year-old mind can retain. It’s quite humbling and keeps me accountable with every action. And, really, it’s just fascinating.

So, for memory’s sake, I’m noting some tidbits of our conversation this past Sunday–

  • Caleb to Josh: “There are no strong beginnings, Daddy. I have robots.” (Oh, the stream of consciousnesses.)
  • Caleb and Mommy conversing in his bed before he goes to sleep–
Me: “Caleb, did you have fun at that pool party tonight?”
Caleb: “Yes. And, I go back to that pool.”
Me: “You must have had fun. Wasn’t that nice of Dr. C to have a party at his pool?”
Caleb: “Yes. And, he go to the hospital. There’s no water there.”
Me: “No. No there’s not. You’re right.”
Caleb: “He helps peoples. He makes them better.”
Me: “Yes. Yes, he does. He’s a nice guy. Did you enjoy Sunday school this morning.”
    Caleb: “Yes.”
    Me: “What did you learn?”
    Caleb: “God. And Jesus.”
Me: “What about God and Jesus?”
Caleb: “God created-ed trees. And he created-ed birds, and skies, and, and, and cars.”
Me: “What about rocks? Did he create rocks, too?”
Caleb: “Yes, he created-ed rocks. They’re dirty.”

    Me: “Does God love you?”
Caleb: “Yes, God loves me and Mommy, and Daddy, and, and, and Adawyn , and Mih-wee. But he not love tissues.”

His randomness. I just love it. Who knew a two-year-old would be so hilarious?!

Also worth noting is one of Caleb’s recent obsessions: Cedarmont Kids. If you search for them on Youtube, you’ll find a chipper-looking group of 90s children merrily singing and dramatically gesticulating to mostly Gospel songs. Caleb is enthralled and he gets to watch abut 30 minutes of Cedarmont Kids while I’m putting Adalynn to bed at night. These little songs also help when we’re running errands, and Caleb gets bored: we just sing, and he’s fine (usually!). He’s also developed a big fear of thunder, so singing helps with that, too. Within a couple weeks, he’s learned all of the following songs, and it absolutely melts my heart to hear him sing a lot of these truths–

  • “Jesus Loves Me”
  • “Joshua Fought the Battle of Jericho”
  • “Oh How I Love Jesus”
  • “Oh Be Careful Little Eyes”
  • “Rise and Shine”
  • “I’m in the Lord’s Army” (His FAVORITE that he sings ever-so loudly while we’re shopping–there’s no denying whose army we’re in!)
  • “This Little Light of Mine”
  • “The B-I-B-L-E”
  • “Give Me Oil in My Lamp”
  • “Jesus Loves the Little Children”
  • “My God is So Big” (another favorite to sing while shopping)
  • “I’ve Got the Joy-Joy-Joy-Joy”
  • “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands”
  • “Jesus Wants Me for a Sunbeam”

There are more songs, but these are his favorites that he requests at night as we hold hands and sing for about 20 minutes. Days are often long and taxing, but these moments with my sweet and crazy toddler make it all worthwhile.DSC_0187-a

  1. Absolutely one of your sweetest writings. I love hearing how Caleb talks and how he looks at the world. He is so precious. That face melts your heart.
